Kendo Hakama #8800 Aizome
A good hakama will accompany a kendoka for many years.
It must be robust, retain its shape and prove itself reliably in training.
The Kendo Hakama #8800 is made exclusively for Kendo24 from particularly strong cotton fabric and combines traditional materials with a durable construction.
A hakama for kendoka who value quality, durability and classic aesthetics.
Material & colouring
The hakama is made of 100% cotton in heavy #8800 fabric quality.
The fabric is traditionally dyed using the aizome (indigo) method. The thread is dyed before weaving so that the colour penetrates the entire thread. This method ensures a particularly intense colour effect and high colour fastness.
With increasing training, the fabric develops a characteristic patina – a sign of intensive use and growing experience.
Workmanship & dimensional stability
The inner pleats are sewn along the inner edge.
This makes it easy to find the pleats again after washing and lay them neatly. At the same time, the shape of the hakama remains stable even with regular training.
This construction makes folding much easier and ensures permanently clear lines.
Use in training
The Kendo Hakama #8800 is ideal for regular training and intensive use in the dojo.
The robust cotton fabric offers a very good balance of stability, comfort and traditional appearance.

Care
As Aizome indigo dyeing is not traditionally completely fixed, the fabric may rub off slightly, especially at the beginning.
Blue fingers are part and parcel of genuine indigo dyeing.
For care, we recommend hand washing, ideally with a little vinegar in the wash water. This helps to reduce colour loss and gradually fix the colour. To dry, simply hang over the bath or in a shady place – but avoid direct sunlight!
Durable. Traditional. Ready for training.

With my height of 193 cm, the measurement from belly button to ankle is 108 cm. Divided by 37.9, the result is 2.85 shaku. And indeed: I wear a size 28 hakama. It could also be a size 29, but I like to wear the hakama a little lower... .
Special cases:
- Very slim people often wear the hakama a bit higher, people with a little bit of a belly also like to wear it "underbelly". Accordingly, the hakama should be chosen longer or shorter.
- Aikido hakama are wrapped in the belt of the keiko-gi at the front. Therefore, slim people should choose a slightly longer hakama so that the hakama does not stand out too much from the ground. Lower-bellied wearers, on the other hand, have enough fabric left to fold the hakama obi into the belt and should therefore choose the normal size of hakama.
- For slim and waisted women, hakama quickly slip into the waist. Therefore, one size larger should be chosen. Or you can make it easy on yourself and order a women's hakama directly from our exclusive clothing series for women - NYOSHOU!
