Za - to be seated
Hiroshi Ikeda sensei skillfully demonstrates aikido suwariwaza, from basic drills to advanced applications. Suwariwaza are techniques performed from a centered, seated position. In feudal Japan, sitting and kneeling were such common postures that samurai routinely practiced suwariwaza as a means for survival. Suwariwaza are excellent aids to center development.
Hiroshi Ikeda, aikido 7th dan, began his studies at Aikido Honbu Dojo in 1968. He is the founder and chief instructor of Boulder Aikikai in Boulder, Colorado, and Vice President of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba. He is a frequent guest instructor at seminars in the U.S. and abroad.
